You may believe that communications is volume business. That if you shout loudly enough, your messages will get through.
The only way to cut through the clutter is with a communications strategy that is sensible, understandable, practical and thoughtful.

Marie Garvey directs the firm's Executive Training Program, a series of communication courses for senior executives, management, and in-house public relations counsel. These specialized work sessions introduce strategic communication tools and tactics for crisis situations, message development, issue assessments, media interviews, presentations, community meetings and employee forums. In the past 20 years, Ms. Garvey has trained CEOs, Executives, Generals, Filmmakers and Actors as part of her training programs.
The Garvey Group has spent over 20 years working with the media serving as a strategist and spokesperson on major corporate initiatives, development projects, litigation and crisis communication situations for Fortune 100 companies and major entertainment companies.
The media environment has experienced sweeping changes, which have literally transformed the way information and misinformation is disseminated to the public. It has never been more important for companies to take an active role in the media and ensure that their messages and the facts are part of the story.
Our Media Training Module was tailored with the corporate and entertainment industry in mind. As the expert, corporate executives feel armed with the knowledge to succeed in any interview situation. However, their extensive knowledge is both an asset and a liability. Likewise filmmakers and actors are often called upon to support a movie through media events, but lack the understanding of message-driven communications to be successful. Our Media Training is focused on getting our clients “game ready” by understanding the tools and control measures to effectively use their knowledge, skills and personality to navigate any interview situations.
Media Training provides clients with the important skills necessary to understand how the media operates, when to engage, how best to get your message heard, tools to control an interview and, most importantly, how to avoid the tricks and traps most often used by the media with real news interviews and examples.
The day concludes by putting this newly gained knowledge into practice through a simulated on-camera interview where real and relevant questions are asked. Once completed, the film is immediately played back and reviewed, allowing the client to see where they have succeeded and what areas would benefit from review. Following that, a final mock interview is filmed where our clients work on new skills to improve their performance.
The Garvey Group’s Presentation Training program is an individualized program designed to improve and enhance presentation skills necessary in business today. The program is designed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each presenter and create tools and strategies to elevate their presentation skills. The training includes the key elements of an effective presentation, the necessary structure of a successful presentation and the do’s and don’t of presentations. The room will be set up in audience style and each participant will be required to do a 10-minute presentation in front of the training group. Presentations will be filmed and with the coach, presenters will be able to watch their presentation and identify successes and areas of improvement. In addition, TGG offers one-on-one training sessions and coaching targeted towards executive and small group presentations as well as a specialize program to strengthen executive presence.
The unknown in business has never been more prevalent and charting the right course for your company has never been more important. With budgets getting tighter and resources stretched to the limits, it is critical that your company has the right thought partners and employs the critical thinking necessary to navigate through these difficult times. Too often valuable time and money is spent unsuccessfully dealing with issues while the real threats are left unidentified and unaddressed. Understanding the difference between an issue and a threat and having the right strategy in place to address both is critical. At The Garvey Group, we understand the difference.
In a condensed time period, TGG will take your leaders through a highly collaborative and efficient process that will identify the strengths and weaknesses, distinguish the issues and threats facing the company and recommend strategies needed to address challenges and leverage strengths. In the end, a strategic footprint will be created that will become the guidebook for success.
The Message Strategy Workshop takes clients through a process that builds an effective Message Strategy that will communicate key project facts and benefits to its target audiences.
To ensure that our clients are properly positioned before target audiences,TGG develops a multi-tiered Message Strategy that serves as the platform for all written and verbal communications. These messages become the “mantra” of the entire campaign and help guarantee that executives as well as all the parties involved echo the project positioning and benefits.
The Garvey Group has extensive experience in dismantling a wide-range of complicated, emotionally driven issues. TGG’s strategy requires attacking the issue from three fronts: describing the issue and the response in human-terms; taking trust out of the equation; and fighting fiction with facts. In today’s intensive media environment where controversy makes the best headline, a clear and effective Message Strategy will make all the difference.
